Infectolab Americas

Infectolab Americas provides a unique approach for testing antigen specific T cells in Lyme disease. We test for T cells present in the blood that recognize specifically Lyme antigens and we measure two cytokines these cells produce. These are Interferon-gamma and IL-2. Interferon-gamma is produced by active T cells that are in the process of fighting the disease and those T cells are present in the blood of patients that are sick and display symptoms of lyme at the time of the blood draw. The second cytokine is IL-2 that is produced by T cells that are in switching program from fighting the disease. The IL-2 producing T cells are found in the blood of patients that are either at the end of en infection or are in a chronic controlled infection. This means with the information of these two T cell subsets it is possible to monitor progress of treatment and adjust the treatment based on the testing. Currently we are the only lab in the US that has this technique available. In addition we provide the Lymespot with and additional antigen called LFA-1. This is an lyme unspecific marker that is activating chronic active T cells. This can be helpful to help distinguish if a chronic condition is present in a lyme patient. This may mean chronic Lyme or can mean there is an auto immune disease present.
